Old and New Calendars

This is a part of my 2007 Chinese calendar. I am recycling the leaves for writing messages and other notes on the back. Don't wish too many trees to be cut down.

This year I was given a desk top calendar which has turf club races printed - it has always been a popular gimmick by most businesses. The images of horse racing have not been updated for the last 40 years!!

This year I am extremely lucky to get my own animal zodiac (the ox) on the calendar. I am hanging this free calendar in my living room.

this is another calendar...rather redundant but nevertheless treasured. I bought a new clock and a new pen(total of RM260) and was given this calendar as a thank you gift. So it is not that free after all.

My Sarawak Almanac 2009 (RM 8)!!!! From last year's RM6.50.

Am I not lucky to have a part of Hawaii in my home? Given to me in July 2008 actually when my friend Florence came back from Hawaii. How would we have known then that Barack Obama would be the 44th US President?

My Maui Hawaii 2009 Calendar. 2009 is Obama's year.

The Methodist Church Calendar is on my guest room's door this year. I have another huge calendar bought from Emmanuel Bookstore in my study room.

I am still on the lookout for a "film star" calendar of the old style. May be I can find one in Sibu. I continue to smile and think of the old style calendars hanging on my grandmother's living room wall. She being a popular figure in Sibu would always get free gifts of calendars. And some years she would have about 10 calendars hanging on her wall each with a different film star like Lindai:) Yu Ming:) Ger Lan:) Lin Chui :) Li Li Hua:)Li Ching :) Li Ching:)etc. I think one can assess one's popularity by the number of calendars one obtained (free) in those days!!

This "film star" calendar came from Brunei. I was so thrilled to get it from a friendly shop keeper at the beginning of last year and kept it in mint condition - just for old time's sake. Every relative who came to the house would shriek with surprise!! "You still have something like this?"

Have a happy new year with lots of calendars!! I hope I won't forget important dates now that I am surrounded with so many calendars! But do remind me sometimes.

Happy New Year!

Yeah I am going to hang that on my wall to the kitchen for as long as I can. Some people may say "crazy" but I shall say it is a "collectible" for some of us Chinese who are nostalgic for the old days....Going home for Chinese New Year? All the best.
